Annual Changes to Claims-Based PQRI Reporting Feature


Annual changes to claims-based (CMS, Medicare) PQRI Measures - to include new measures, new CPT codes, and development enhancements to our built-in functionality (effective 1/1/2010).

When CMS changes the details of this reporting program every year, eCW must respond by changing the way the feature works within our software. This large project requires details we don't receive from CMS until mid-December, at best. Development is currently working on coding the functional enhancements. When enhancements are complete and fully tested, patches will be made if at all possible to limit the need for clients to upgrade please watch for future announcements. We are working quickly to make feature changes available to clients as soon as possible.

Until our enhancement of the "pop-up" PQRI code prompting feature is available, the appropriate codes can be added manually within the Progress Note or directly on the claim.

In the meantime, downloading our CPT 2010 patch #945 will update your CPT dictionary with all of the codes you'll need to report the new claims-based measures (188, 189, 190, 193, 194, 195, 201, 202, 203, and 204).


Patch #945 also includes the new code for the e-prescribing measure, G8553, which can be reported on claims.


All eCW practices have been enabled for CPT 2010 patch #945, with the exception of SaaS/ASP hosted clients and multi-server and Linux server clients. Messages about the patch were sent via the Administrator inbox in the eClinicalWorks application. If you have not received such a notification and feel your practice should have, please log a support ticket on the eCW Support Portal.

NYC PCIP $500 Specialist Referral credit

Dear PCIP Partner,

Your decision to “go paperless” with support from the Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) has surely transformed the way your practice delivers patient care, and we would like to thank you for your partnership.

As we embark on the next phase of our project, we now need your assistance. PCIP was recently awarded a grant from New York State that will allow us to develop an electronic tool for tracking referrals and consultations, an innovation that will significantly enhance the ability of primary care providers to coordinate patient care. The funding will also allow us to develop a hospital discharge summary tool that will provide physicians with a patient’s medication list and information about which lab and radiology tests were performed on admission. Additionally, it will help close the loop” when patients are sent elsewhere for specialist or emergency care. These improvements will help avoid adverse patient drug interactions and will make information-gathering more accurate and less burdensome for both you and your patients.

For this program to be successful, we need as many specialists as possible to participate. Please help us promote electronic referrals in your community. All you have to do is complete the referral form and submit the names of specialists to whom you frequently refer patients. Ideally, the specialists you list should treat a high volume of Diabetic patients (Endocrinologists, Podiatrists, Ophthalmologists, Nephrologists, and Cardiologists, though other specialists may also qualify), and should be interested in implementing a subsidized EHR system through PCIP. If a provider you refer ends up enrolling in PCIP, you will receive a $500 eClinicalWorks account credit!

In order for specialists and other prospective providers to learn more about EHR implementation through PCIP, we are hosting free Open Houses on December 17th and January 11th. For more details about the Open Houses, please view the flyer (PDF). Help us spread the word!

NYC DOHMH PCIP:Electronic Health Records: Free Open House

On Thursday, October 15, 2009 the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is hosting the first PCIP Open House, where providers can meet the PCIP team and hear how to switch from paper records to secure Electronic Health Records. Presentations will cover how to use an EHR to improve patient care, meet federal incentive payment requirements, and protect sensitive patient data.

If you are already using eClinicalWorks, you can earn $500 in eCW credit by referring a colleague to the program. Feel free to pass along the flyer to any interested physicians.
