WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—October 1, 2010—eClinicalWorks^®, announced today that eClinicalWorks EMR VERSION 8.0.48 is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on October 1 2010 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an ONC-ATCB, in accordance with the applicable ELIGIBLE PROVIDER certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

"We see the value of The Meaningful Use certification. We felt it was important to demonstrate leadership and be one of the earlier companies to go through the process," said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. "We believe the certification process lends further credibility and assurance to our customers. I also recognize and acknowledge the work and effort that goes into the certification process."

The ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program tests and certifies that Complete EHRs meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria and EHR Modules meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for either eligible provider or hospital technology. "CCHIT is pleased to be testing and certifying products so that companies are now able to offer these products to providers who wish to purchase and implement certified EHR technology and achieve meaningful use in time for the 2011-2012 incentives," said Karen M. Bell, M.D., M.S.S., Chair, CCHIT.

2011/2012 certification conferred by CCHIT does not represent an endorsement of the certified EHR technology by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services nor does it guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.

The NYC Regional Electronic Adoption Center for Health (NYCREACH) is a collaboration between the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Fund for Public Health in New York to help make sure doctors in New York City don't get left behind. Our mission is to assist them in adopting technology and methods that measurably improve the health of New Yorkers. The Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) will hold an EHR Open House on June 10, 2010, from 12:00noon to 4:30 PM at 161 William St., 6th Floor. This will be an excellent opportunity for interested providers to meet the PCIP team and to hear how to switch from paper records to secure Electronic Health Records. Presentations will cover how to use an EHR to improve patient care, meet federal incentive payment requirements, and protect sensitive patient data. You will also learn how to get an EHR at a substantial discount through our limited incentive program.

You will have an opportunity to meet one on one with: EHR trainers; billing and coding instructors; NYC Business Solutions (to help with financial and staffing resources); and other providers who have implemented an EHR. The program will have specific sessions on (1) "PCIP and Meaningful Use" (from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM); (2) "Q&A with Outreach, Infrastructure, Quality Improvement, Privacy and Security, and NYC Business Solutions Panel" (from 1:00 PM-1:45 PM); "EHR in My Practice: a Provider's Perspective"(2:00 PM-2:45 PM) and breakout sessions from 3:00 PM-4:30 PM on everything from Implementation, Revenue Cycle Management, Privacy and Security, to IT Experts and Outreach. Unified EMR/PM System Aids Practices in Achieving Recognition for Strengthening Physician-Patient Relationship

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—April 21, 2010—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that numerous customers across the country have been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for achieving Physician Practice Connections®-Patient-Centered Medical Home™ (PCMH) status, which is designed to coordinate care in a primary care setting. Looking to maximize performance on your EHR? Need help? eCW is giving bimonthly advanced user trainings!

In February, eClinicalWorks and DOHMH will be offering advanced user trainings at 80 Centre St in downtown Manhattan. These 2-4 hour sessions teach advanced functionality in eClinicalWorks. These trainings are part of a larger rotation of new and advanced user trainings (schedule attached).

Sessions are open to anyone who has completed basic training. Staff with no basic training should attend the new staff sessions in February.

NYC DOH PCIP (PCMH) Patient Centered Medical Home Primary Care Information Project

Patient Centered Medical Home Primary Care Information Project

Background

Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is a care model in which the primary care physician, supported by staff, coordinates the care of patients across the health system. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) launched a certification program for practices that embrace the principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home. Achieving this certification could allow health plans and patients to recognize your care coordination and quality improvement work within this groundbreaking model of care.
When a patient appoints a primary care doctor as the leader of his or her Patient-Centered Medical Home, that provider coordinates appropriate referrals to labs, diagnostic imaging, specialist care, and follows up on emergency room visits; maintaining a comprehensive medical record for the patient. Access to these records and the continuity of the doctor-patient relationship allow a Patient-Centered practice to deliver appropriate care and keep up with preventive services for their patients. In fact, early studies of Patient-Centered primary care suggest that patients who have a primary care clinician coordinating their care and tracking outcomes are much more likely to receive evidence-based preventive care, and enjoy better health outcomes.

Researchers have proven that specialty medical care is more likely to be appropriate and effective when it is spurred by coordinated referrals from a patient’s primary care doctor. In response to this evidence, 74% of health care leaders in business, government and health care delivery support compensating practices that serve as patient-centered medical homes, according to a 2008 Commonweath Health Leaders survey.

Funding

Providers now have two more reasons to apply for PCMH certification. Empire BlueCross BlueShield and New York State Medicaid both recently announced plans to pay providers who meet the NCQA criteria. Empire will pay each certified primary care provider based on the number of Empire patients they see and the level of certification they have achieved.

While all the details of the two programs are not available yet, PCIP strongly encourages all practices to submit their paperwork to ensure they are eligible.

Get Started

If you are a PCIP-participating provider, we are delighted to inform you that you are already eligible for at least a Level I PCMH certification through NCQA. To receive your certification you must submit a basic application to NCQA. You may even be eligible to have PCIP cover the cost of your PCMH application. In addition, our Quality Improvement Specialists look forward to working with your practice to improve patient access and tracking, develop new office policies, and help refine your office workflows. As you take these steps towards improved quality of care, you will earn an even higher level of certification.

PQRI Reporting Feature

Annual Changes to Claims-Based PQRI Reporting Feature

Annual changes to claims-based (CMS, Medicare) PQRI Measures - to include new measures, new CPT codes, and development enhancements to our built-in functionality (effective 1/1/2010).

When CMS changes the details of this reporting program every year, eCW must respond by changing the way the feature works within our software. This large project requires details we don't receive from CMS until mid-December, at best. Development is currently working on coding the functional enhancements. When enhancements are complete and fully tested, patches will be made if at all possible to limit the need for clients to upgrade please watch for future announcements. We are working quickly to make feature changes available to clients as soon as possible.

Until our enhancement of the "pop-up" PQRI code prompting feature is available, the appropriate codes can be added manually within the Progress Note or directly on the claim.

In the meantime, downloading our CPT 2010 patch #945 will update your CPT dictionary with all of the codes you'll need to report the new claims-based measures (188, 189, 190, 193, 194, 195, 201, 202, 203, and 204).

Patch #945 also includes the new code for the e-prescribing measure, G8553, which can be reported on claims.

All eCW practices have been enabled for CPT 2010 patch #945, with the exception of SaaS/ASP hosted clients and multi-server and Linux server clients. Messages about the patch were sent via the Administrator inbox in the eClinicalWorks application. If you have not received such a notification and feel your practice should have, please log a support ticket on the eCW Support Portal.

Dear PCIP Partner,

Your decision to “go paperless” with support from the Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) has surely transformed the way your practice delivers patient care, and we would like to thank you for your partnership.

As we embark on the next phase of our project, we now need your assistance. PCIP was recently awarded a grant from New York State that will allow us to develop an electronic tool for tracking referrals and consultations, an innovation that will significantly enhance the ability of primary care providers to coordinate patient care. The funding will also allow us to develop a hospital discharge summary tool that will provide physicians with a patient’s medication list and information about which lab and radiology tests were performed on admission. Additionally, it will help close the loop” when patients are sent elsewhere for specialist or emergency care. These improvements will help avoid adverse patient drug interactions and will make information-gathering more accurate and less burdensome for both you and your patients.

For this program to be successful, we need as many specialists as possible to participate. Please help us promote electronic referrals in your community. All you have to do is complete the referral form and submit the names of specialists to whom you frequently refer patients. Ideally, the specialists you list should treat a high volume of Diabetic patients (Endocrinologists, Podiatrists, Ophthalmologists, Nephrologists, and Cardiologists, though other specialists may also qualify), and should be interested in implementing a subsidized EHR system through PCIP. If a provider you refer ends up enrolling in PCIP, you will receive a $500 eClinicalWorks account credit!

In order for specialists and other prospective providers to learn more about EHR implementation through PCIP, we are hosting free Open Houses on December 17th and January 11th. For more details about the Open Houses, please view the flyer (PDF). Help us spread the word!

According to the NY Times, soon you'll be able to go to a local Sam's Club and purchase a package that includes eClinicalWorks and Dell computers for about $25,000.00 for the first doctor.
Annual support would be between $4000.00 and $6000.00.

I guess the Stimulus Package and a positive experience with the software in the Redi-Clinics has gotten Walmart to look at EHR distribution as a new product/service with a lot of potential.

I look forward to see if Walmart will now start promoting the DOSSIA PHR as well.

How many of you expect this announcement before year's end:

eClinicalMessenger VoIP on its way

Much is written about having clinical resources at the Point of Care (POC).
This is deals with the other half of the doctor/patient equation. Now patients can have automated messages sent to them by their healthcare providers' practices regardless of their location, ie. their cellphone. SV

eClinicalMessenger is a messaging service that utilizes Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) to enable physician practices to send messages, in batches or singularly, to patients for aspects of care including appointment reminders, lab results, diagnostic imaging and statements.

eClinicalMessenger is embedded in eClinicalWorks EMR/PM as opposed to being a stand-alone product, so patients can respond to the message and have their response change the status in the EMR. For example, if a customer confirms the appointment through the message, the schedule in the EMR will reflect that the appointment has been confirmed.

eClinicalMessenger is also tied into the Patient Portal to provide more opportunities for streamlined communication.

eClinicalMobile uses a mobile-browser so providers can access the system anywhere through their smart phone. The screen has been optimized for easier viewing and to load quickly on these handheld devices. A few examples of using eClinicalMobile include:

* Checking schedules;
* Reviewing Telephone and Web messages;
* E-prescribing;
* Looking up patient medical records;
* Examining lab results; and
* Charge capture at the point of service.

eClinicalMobile will be available in Q1 2009.

Well the word is out:

Walmart is requiring that their on site clinics have the combined EHR/PMS from eClinicalWorks. RediClinic has the contract to run the sites.

Now what if WalMart would also "sponsor" eCW's eEHX solution via an independent community run organization? Would it be accepted? There are many issues: governance, privacy etc.

Until reliable and cost-effective interoperablity between EHRs and PHRs is available, it is to the advantage of current eCW customers for MiniClinics like those at WalMart to have eCW

The description of the eEHX means that at the bare minimum, we will be able to exchange significantly more information than the standard faxed
"we saw your patient today note". Plus the miniclinic would have access to clinical information that would help reduce the likelihood of a medical misadventure.

It would thus be to the advantage of the Miniclinics to "sponsor" the eEHX costs for the local community. SV

Norman Physician Hospital Organization chooses eClinicalWorks

Background
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)’s Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) is dedicated to improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of health care for Medicaid recipients and other underserved populations in New York City through the adoption and use of electronic health records (EHRs).

As part of a Mayoral initiative, the DOHMH has received $30 million from New York City, to support over 1,300 primary care providers to adopt an EHR that is designed to foster community health. To be eligible to participate in this element of the project, a provider must either practice in a District Public Health Office (DPHO) area, or care for a population where at least 30% of their patients are on Medicaid/Child health plus or are uninsured. These eligible providers will receive assistance that will allow them to implement the Take Care New York (TCNY) version of eClinicalWorks (eCW) EHR that contains special functionalities developed by the DOHMH that are designed to assist providers to deliver high quality preventative health care.

The DOHMH has secured additional external support to enhance the project and expand its eligibility criteria. It received a $3.2 million HEAL I, that will allow 29 NYC Community Health Centers (CHCs), comprised of 648 providers at more than 150 locations, to adopt an interoperable EHR system with public health functionality. It has received a $3 million Center of Excellence grant in public health informatics that it is using to research the optimal ways that EHRs can be used to support public health goals, such as improved population health. Finally, it has received a grant from the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) to evaluate the project and disseminate its findings nationally.

HEAL V Goal
To assist over 650 primary care providers operating in the NYC community, who currently aren’t eligible for the mayoral funded program, to adopt an EHR that will allow them to improve the quality of care they deliver to their entire patient population.

Plan of Action
In HEAL NY Phase 5, DOHMH will serve as the lead applicant, or CHITA, to contract with New York State. This proposal will specifically extend the EHR to 665 providers, who aren’t eligible for the mayoral support project (i.e., do not care for a population where at least 30% of patients are on Medicaid/Child health plus or are uninsured), but who serve Medicaid beneficiaries and are interested in adopting a public health focused EHR including. Specialists would fall to hospitals or pay their own way. Non-eligible providers include:
a) Physician practices and ambulatory care clinicians in solo and small physician offices;
b) General hospital(s) with clinical affiliation to CHITA clinicians
c) Diagnostic and treatment centers and facilities
All providers participating in the project will receive the TCNY eCW EHR system that will contain decision support tools such as point-of-care reminders that incorporate clinical guidelines and specific public health indicators developed by the DOHMH and interfaces with DOHMH information systems such as the Citywide Immunization Registry. Using its existing contract, DOHMH will propose to use HEAL NY funds to purchase the licenses, implementation and support services, necessary to assist primary care providers to adopt the TCNY eCW EHR system, which is valued at approximately $12,000 per provider full time equivalent (FTE). Each provider FTE, however, will be expected to contribute $4,000 to a shared technical assistance pool and document at least $8,000 in in-kind contributions, which can include the purchase of new information technology hardware and lost productivity due to training and go-live scheduling.

Providers that are interested in participating in the project must complete an application (attached), a HEAL NY letter of intent and financial commitment form and return it to DOHMH by Friday November 9th, 2007. .In Q4 of 2007, eClinicalWorks will introduce a Proactive Support Representative (PSR) team. This team will contact all clients once per year to perform a technical analysis of your system.They will review your backup process, perform a system analysis, and remove any files that are no longer required. The team has begun calls to review satisfaction levels with the service we are providing, and any concerns that you may have.

.In mid-July eClinicalWorks is unveiling the eCWiki which is an online product reference tool that allows for client interaction. The eCWiki will include all of the information currently available in the product guides, and will allow clients and eClinicalWorks employees the ability to expand or add any information believed to be useful in explaining how to use eClinicalWorks.

.One major improvement to look forward to is an additional drug database to be used in conjunction with eClinicalWorks. MediSpan (www.medispan.com) has been selected as the new eClinicalWorks partner. eClinicalWorks believes that MediSpan will offer quality drug data along with a breadth of decision support modules to assist in patient care.
